  • When Jordan Mickey of LSU received his first Southeastern Conference basketball honor after two games as league Freshman of the Week, he became the first LSU player to get the award since Storm Warren in the second week of the 2008-09 season.
Now Mickey has won it again after a strong performance Saturday in LSU's 61-54 win over ULM at the Maravich Center.
Mickey had 25 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 free throws while grabbing nine rebounds and for the fourth time this year knocking away at least five shots.
Since the award resumed in the 2005-06 season, Mickey is the fourth LSU freshman to win it, and he is halfway to the mark of four in a season that Tyrus Thomas captured in 2005-06 and Anthony Randolph won in 2007-08.
Mickey, from Dallas, Texas, is third in the league in field goal percentage (48-of-83, 57.8%), 16th in scoring average (14.8 ppg), tied for fourth in rebound average (8.8 rpg), second in blocked shot average (3.9) and third in the league in minutes played per game (33.2 mpg).
