  • The Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary Foundation (BTEF) was awarded a $23,000 grant by the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) to purchase a shallow water vessel to support the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program’s (BTNEP) restoration efforts.

This highly specialized vessel will allow BTNEP and its volunteers expanded access into previously inaccessible areas in need of restoration. The 20-foot Pro-Drive shallow water vessel will permit volunteers to plant these hard to access areas on many future revegetative efforts.

BTNEP’s Volunteer Program carries out numerous restoration and cleanup projects each year within the 4.2 million acre estuary. During the past year alone, over 500 volunteers helped BTNEP establish more than 50,000 plants within our estuary through these coastal restoration plantings.

For over 30 years, the GNOF has been connecting donors to community needs. They help create a resilient, sustainable, vibrant community in which individuals and families flourish and the special character of our region is preserved, celebrated, and supported. The foundation serves the southeast Louisiana region.

BTNEP and BTEF would like to thank the Greater New Orleans Foundation for their generous contribution and for helping BTNEP’s Volunteer Program expand its restoration efforts through expanding its restoration reach.

As one out of 28 national estuary programs in the United States, BTNEP includes all or parts of 16 Louisiana parishes that are located in the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary system. The organization was established under the EPA Clean Water Act to protect coastal resources.

BTNEP is a partnership of government, businesses, scientists, conservation organizations, agricultural interests and individuals for the preservation, protection, and restoration for the Barataria Terrebonne National Estuary in southeast Louisiana.
