The Donaldsonville Tigers had to face tremendous adversity during their first season under head coach Brian Richardson.

After fighting through the catastrophic flood at the start of the season, the team began to get flooded with injuries. Many of their best players were sidelined for multiple games.

Wide receiver James Gipson missed most of the season with a knee injury. Quarterback Jaylin Williams and running back Jemon Pleasant both missed some action, along with many additional Tiger players.

Having so many starters out certainly didn’t help Donaldsonville as they faced an absolutely brutal schedule.

In addition to having to navigate through the powerful District 6-3A, the Tigers had to face a total of eight playoff teams in 2016.

Despite the injuries and the gauntlet of a schedule, the Tigers were still able to improve their win total from last year and lock up a playoff spot. Donaldsonville missed the postseason in 2015.

Though, they fell in the first round—losing to district foe and Class 3A’s top seed in West Feliciana.

Multiple Donaldsonville players were able to earn All-District 6-3A honors for their solid play this season.

Three Tigers earned a spot on the first team.

Junior middle linebacker Tahj Brown was able to secure first-team honors, along with junior defensive end Kadarrion Jones and junior offensive lineman Davon Wright.

Junior center D’ondre Fisher was the lone Tiger to make the second team.

Finally, there were six Donaldsonville players that were honorable mention selections. Five of the players were underclassmen.

Juniors Jaylin Williams (quarterback), Jemon Pleasant (running back) and Ladarius Jackson (wide receiver) were honorable mention, along with sophomore athlete Jeffery Johnson and freshman defensive back Jaquavius Tenner.

The lone senior to be named all-district was offensive lineman Kaleb Phillips.

The future looks bright for the Tigers. Nine of their 10 all-district selections will be returning next season.
