The Rev. Ronald Dorsey, Sr. has written a book that he said will reintroduce sermons of the past.

"The purpose of the book is to stir up the gift that's in many Christians, some who feel apathetic and need to be inspired," Dorsey, Sr. said.

The Greater Israel Baptist Church pastor, who has 35 years experience, wrote Sermons to Remember Volume I: God's Words to the Nations earlier this year. It couples his two degrees in education and theology, as he curates a series of biblical texts and sermons to be used as a teaching tool for pastors, but also lay-members who enjoy the word.

"In the book, I draw from spiritual inspiration and the transforming ability of the word to change lives," Dorsey, Sr. said. "It's going to challenge the reader. It's going to also discipline the reader to get back to what really works, and that's the word itself."

Dorsey said he finds that there are young people who need to be reinvigorated with a stronger revival of the word.

"This book is going to remind them that some of the directions they're going in and some of the things that are going on in the world now can actually be changed if you remember what was taught in the word."

Dorsey said while he doesn't believe the church is losing young members, he does think that a lot of younger people are not getting their full spiritual benefit.

"They're working more on trial and error instead of using the word which is tried and true," Dorsey, Sr. said.

Among themed texts in the book, Dorsey, Sr. explores chapters that speak directly to young people with One Bite of the Apple. Listening to Snake Talk addresses the trend of gossip and rumors. Home Talking and Street Walking is geared to parents of young people who get most of their instructions from the streets, advising them that it's time to regain home structure.

Dorsey, Sr. said there is something in the book for everyone who desires to be inspired by the word of God.

A book signing will be held Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p .m. at the Assumption Parish Library. Books may also be purchased through Amazon.com.
