Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa announced that mandated improvements to the Ascension Parish Jail were completed early and significantly under budget.
“The jail’s cooling tower was completely broken,” Matassa said. “Many people may not realize that Parish government is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the jail.”
According to Matassa, the old cooling unit was thought to be beyond repair. He credited Project Manager Ami Clouatre Johnson and Maintenance Technician Willie Woods with providing the expertise and management to complete the project earlier than planned and at a substantial savings. Gallo Mechanical and Infinity Engineering were part of the construction and design team.
The project was originally bid at $143,000, but was completed for $80,000, which is a savings of $63,000, or 44 percent.
“This is the type of efficiency we strive for in all of our projects,” Matassa said. “This savings, and others we have accomplished, will enable us to provide additional services to the people of Ascension Parish.”
