Honors continued to fall upon Ascension Catholic athletes recently as both Jacoby Stewart and Carson Dunn were selected to their respective All-Metro squads.

Stewart earned his way onto the Baton Rouge area All-Metro 3A and below football team as a defensive back.

During the 2016 season, Stewart proved to be one of the best playmakers on the Bulldog defense as he accumulated 43 tackles, five interceptions and four pass breakups.

In Ascension Catholic’s 62-16 win over rival Ascension Christian alone, he had three interceptions. He returned one of them for a Bulldog touchdown.

Stewart and Ascension Catholic made quite the turnaround in 2016.

After a 4-6 campaign that saw the Bulldogs miss out on the playoffs for the first time in three years, they improved to 6-4 and hosted a postseason game in the Division IV playoffs.

Stewart was also a first-team all-district selection at defensive back. He made the second team as a wide receiver.

As for Dunn, she earned a spot on the Baton Rouge area All-Metro volleyball team for Divisions III, IV and V.

During the season, Dunn collected 424 digs, 42 kills and 35 aces.

In addition to the All-Metro team, Dunn was also named her district’s MVP.

Dunn and Ascension Catholic came off of a magnificent 2015 season where they reached the state semifinals.

However, many of their top players from that team were lost.

Due to the overall youth and inexperience of the squad, they struggled through much of their non-district schedule, but they finished 5-3 in league play.

They made some noise in the playoffs when they upset 16th-seeded Academy of Sacred Heart in the opening round.
