At the Jan. 19 Ascension Parish Council meeting, Parish President Kenny Matassa proclaimed Jan. 23 to Jan. 29 as National Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week.
The proclamation is as follows:
WHEREAS, National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week exists to encourage teens to ask questions about drugs, drug abuse, alcohol, and alcoholism and receive scientific facts and answers; and
WHEREAS, National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week is an annual event that provides high school students across the United States with the opportunity to ask questions of the Nation’s leading experts in the field of drug abuse, alcohol, and addiction via a web “chat”; and
WHEREAS, National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week encourages organizations working with teens to encourage conversations about drugs, drug abuse, alcohol, and alcoholism; and
WHEREAS, Ascension Counseling Center is encouraging all residents of Ascension Parish to know and understand the dangers involved for teens using drugs and alcohol;
NOW, THEREFORE I, Kenny Matassa, President of Ascension Parish, do hereby proclaim January 23 – 29th, 2017 as “National Drug & Alcohol Facts Week” in Ascension Parish, and encourage all citizens to educate themselves about the hazards of drug and alcohol abuse, and ways to seek treatment.
