Little Learner’s Preparatory Academy will host an open-house on Saturday, April 15 from 12

Noon to 2 p.m. at its new school located at 430 E. New River St. in Gonzales.

The owner and director, Torry Chatman, is hosting this meet-and-greet event for parents and children in the community, and to make it convenient for parents to enroll children ages 6 weeks to 12 for full-day, half-day and before-and-after school care. Children will enjoy the Easter egg hunt, face painting and hot dogs.

The primary focus of LLPA is to bridge the achievement gap before students enter kindergarten. The Louisiana Dept. of Education released a report summarizing the results of the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) assessment, which is a set of standardized, individually ad- ministered measures to assess literacy skills from Kindergarten through third grade. According to the study, only 56 percent of Kindergarteners meet the benchmark and 27 percent need intensive early reading support and intervention. LLPA’s response to this issue entails creating a nurturing environment conducive to learning and growth through active exploration, social stimulation and a Tier I curriculum.

Classes start the first week of May. If parents are unable to attend the open house for on-site enrollment, they may enroll their children by completing the enrollment form on the website,, or by calling the school at (225) 888.4484. LLPA serves children ages six weeks to four years, and offers before-and-after school care to ages five to 12 years.
