Award Luncheon set for May 8 in Baton Rouge
In Girl Scouts, girls are taught leadership and social skills that mold them into becoming the ultimate G.I. R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, and Leader). This year, seven women leaders in the community will be honored at the Girl Scouts Louisiana East 2017 Women of Distinction luncheon on Monday, May 8, at the Renaissance Baton Rouge Hotel, 7000 Bluebonnet Blvd in Baton Rouge. They are Sharon Weston Broome, Mayor-President of Baton Rouge; Katie Corkern, Executive Director, Northshore Families Helping Families; Michelle Forte, Development Manager, Distinguished Events, American Cancer Society; Dr. Kelli Joseph, Superintendent, St. Helena Parish School District; Artie Lacour (posthumous), longtime Girl Scout alumna and volunteer; Dr. Robyn Merrick, Chief of Staff, Southern University and A&M College; and Mallory Page, Artist & Author.
“The women were selected based on their remarkable achievements as business, community, and civic leaders, and are positive role models for the girls and women in our communities,” said Mary-Patricia Wray, event committee chair. “Not every Woman of Distinction was a Girl Scout growing up, but each one has been dedicated to making our community a better place, demonstrating Girl Scout values in all she does.”
The Girl Scouts Louisiana East council began its Women of Distinction recognition program in 2012 during the Girl Scout Centennial, and has recognized 31 amazing women thus far as Women of Distinction.
Tickets for the champagne reception and awards luncheon are $75 each or table sponsorships begin at $600, and available for purchase at www.gsle.org/wod.
