The annual East Ascension Sportsman League’s Kid’s Fishing Rodeo was originally scheduled for Aug. 5. Due to the rain that the Dutchtown area received, they had to cancel the event. It will now be rescheduled for Sept. 30.
If the event has to be cancelled once again due to inclement weather, it will not be rescheduled.
This will be the 57th annual Kid’s Fishing Rodeo. The EASL decided to cancel the event back in August after heavy and sustained rainfall drenched the Twin Lakes area. The EASL did not want to tear up the grounds around the lakes.
As a reminder for the event, bring a fishing pole, a bucket, a chair and live bait. Don’t forget, artificial baits are not allowed. The bucket is to put your fish in so you can hold them while you wait in line to weigh your fish.
Registration will begin at 6:30 a.m., with fishing from 7-9. There will be doughnuts available when you register. After fishing and weighing in your fish, there will be jambalaya and hot dogs for all.
After tallying the results of all the fish, everyone will receive a prize. Bicycles will go to four boys and four girls. These bikes have been donated by the owners of Tower Place in Gonzales.
There will be trophies handed out in age groups for most fish and biggest fish. If your name is not drawn for a bike or if you do not receive a trophy, you will be called to get a prize.
The EASL would like to thank their sponsors: Twin Lakes owner Bobby Dupuy and manager Virgil Flowers, Shell Pipeline, Benton Equipment Company, Motiva Rec Club, Pure Fishing-Berkley, Strike King Lures, TTI-Blakemore, Fluker Cricket Farms, Geico Insurance, Tommy Ronkartz-KC’s, Mobile Electric Supply, David Wilcox-State Farm Insurance and Vince Diez Signs.
