An organization of corporations in Iberville Parish, called the East Iberville Industry Neighbor Companies, has donated $10,000 to the River Parishes Community College Foundation to create a Process Technology (PTEC) Scholarship.
“This is the start of a permanent partnership,” said Misty Bonfanti, of member company PotashCorp. “We are extremely interested in helping our local students begin and build wonderful technical careers here in our region.”
Members of the group, which is also called East Iberville-INC, are Syngenta, Mexichem, Eastman, Olin Chlor Alkali Products & Vinyls, TOTAL Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc., NOVA Chemicals and PotashCorp Geismar.
During a recent campus visit, members saw first-hand RPCC’s new Technical Training Center and current progress of the college’s new Process Equipment Trainer (PET), which will be a re-constructed, full-size, functional distillation unit the college received as a donation.
Members of East Iberville-INC presented its first check for $10,000 to Chancellor Dale Doty and Vice Chancellor of Workforce Development Dr. Bruce Waguespack. RPCC will create and manage a specific scholarship program for qualifying residents of east Iberville Parish.
“Individual member companies of East Iberville-INC have been long-time supporters,” Chancellor Dale Doty said. “The value we have returned on those investments are well-qualified individuals who are prepared to enter the technical fields of our area industry. We are proud that now the group as a whole is investing in this very special new scholarship.”
RPCC plans to award the first East Iberville-INC PTEC scholarships for its spring semester starting January 10, 2018.
