A luncheon was held at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church new Activity Center in Prairieville on Wednesday, October 18 to honor the senior citizens in Ascension Parish. The annual Senior Citizen Luncheon is sponsored by the St. John the Evangelist Knights of Columbus and the Ladies Altar Society.
There were about 135 attendees including invited guests from Azalea Estates Assisted Living, Ascension Oaks Center and Gonzales Health Care as well as parishioners from St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church. Lunch was prepared by Gonzales Jambalaya Festival 4-time Golden Paddle winner Byron Gautreau and David Guedry. Music was provided again this year by Hoyt Cutie. As in the past, the Gonzales Lion's Club made a generous donation showing their support for the senior citizens in our community. Private gifts were also received from the Parish of Gonzales, the Oubre family and three other personal donations.
Door prizes were provided by many merchants in Ascension Parish and the surrounding areas.
