G.W. Carver Bus

A G.W. Carver Primary bus transporting four students after school went off the road and partially submerged its front end in the New River Canal. The four students, bus driver and an aide did not sustain any major injuries but were transported to the hospital as a precaution. All were released that evening. The cause is under investigation.

Blood Drive KC Fundraiser

Our Knights of Columbus will host the quarterly St. John Blood Drive. It will be held on Sunday, March 18 in the new Activity Center from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The blood drive will be held in conjunction with the KC Jambalaya fundraiser and Ladies Altar Society sweets sale, which will take place after the 9:30 and 11:30 masses. 600 plates will be made at $6 each, cooked by champion Bryon Gautreau.

COA Spring Fling

Mark your calendars! The Ascension Council on Aging will host its annual “Spring Fling” Easter Party on Thursday, April 13 at the Gonzales Senior Center on Irma Boulevard. COA Senior Prom

Pet Adoption Event

The SPCA of Livingston will be holding a pet adoption event on Saturday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place at the PetSmart on Millerville Road in Baton Rouge right off of I-12. Bring your family out and meet all of the sweet, furry friends looking for their forever homes. There will be a variety of puppies and adult dogs. Adoption screening applications are required. Adoption donations cover everything from spay/neuter surgeries to age-appropriate vaccines. Each adopter will receive 30-days free pet insurance, puppy pack, a free bag of food, and money-saving coupons from PetSmart, while supplies last.

White Oak Easter Brunch

Burden Museum Events

On Saturday, March 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, Don Taylor will present his seminar "Luminous Underpainting and Watercolor/Ink Journaling" in the Ione Burden Conference Center in the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens. Couples Struggling to Conceive

One couple facing medical and financial roadblocks to having a baby will receive a grant for a free cycle of in vitro fertilization (IVF) through a program called the Gift of Hope. Eligibility requires that couples earn less than $100,000 per year, have no insurance coverage for infertility, and that IVF is medically necessary to conceive. Save the Butterfly Date

The Pink Team of Assumption is pleased to announce the date for its annual Butterfly Release and Memorial Program to be held on the grounds of Assumption Community Hospital, at 135 Highway 402, Napoleonville, Louisiana. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. On Saturday, April 28 and will be followed by a memorial program including music, sharing pictures of loved ones and delicious treats, brown bag lunches and of course the beautiful butterfly release. Cafe Francais

Cafe Francais is held every first Friday of the month at 1 p.m. at the West Baton Rouge Museum. All are welcome, French speakers or not, you are guaranteed a good time. Township Road Bridge Repair

Ascension Parish Department of Public Works has announced that Township Road, between Myles Road and Denoux Road on the west side of Ascension Parish, is closed for bridge repairs. Township Road is primarily a farm road. Local traffic can detour on Myles Road and LA 943.

Bayou Lafourche Discussion

“Bayou Lafourche and Its Role in the History of Ascension and Assumption Parishes” will be the topic of a talk to be given by Andrew Capone, Ascension Parish Librarian, on Saturday, March 17 10 a.m. at Bluebonnet Library, 9200 Bluebonnet Boulevard. This program will be a journey through the history of Ascension and Assumption parishes, featuring the people and places in communities along the banks of the bayou that has been called “the longest main street in the world.” The free program is open to the public. St. Mark Light Lane Fest

St Mark Catholic Church at 42021 LA 621 in Gonzales will be holding their annual Light Lane Festival, April 6, 7 and 8. There will be bands, great food, carnival rides, games for the kids, a live and silent auction.
