"It's a wonderful day in the City of Gonzales with the Arc of East Ascension's annual Family Fun Day," said Sharon Morris, marketing director with the Arc. "Everyone comes together to help to make this event a success, and it really was."

The Arc of East Ascension hosted its eight annual Family Fun Day at the K.C. Hall in Gonzales on Thursday. The event boasted tons of food and activities for the Arc and their families.

Lunch was served at the celebration, thanks to generous donations from area businesses. Guests had plenty of options with red beans and rice, jambalaya, hot dogs and hamburgers, and chicken available, as well as a huge assortment of sweets for dessert. There was even an ice cream truck offering Italian ice and ice cream sandwiches, as well as a Dr. Pepper truck serving drinks sponsored by Coca Cola.

"It's a wonderful day in the City of Gonzales with the Arc of East Ascension's annual Family Fun Day," said Sharon Morris, marketing director with the Arc. "Everyone comes together to help to make this event a success, and it really was."

DJ Troy played music outside, as attendees danced along. The Gonzales Middle School Bulldog cheerleaders came out to perform their routines at the event. Trixie the Clown made balloon animals and posed for pictures, while volunteers offered face painting.

"It's just a fabulous time when the whole community comes together to do something where everyone has fun," said interim director Liz Fussell.

The State Fire Marshal's Office was also on hand, giving fire safety presentations with the help of their dog mascot, Sparky. The Spirit of Louisiana firetruck was set up outside the KC Hall. Guests got the chance to see this special vehicle, which was taken to New York after 9/11 before being returned to New Orleans.

None of this would have been possible without the support and generosity of the Gonzales community. Popingo's, the Jambalaya Association, Dees Sweet Sensation, Sac's Western Store, Pelican State Credit Union, Gonzales Police Department, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office all donated or volunteered to make this event the tremendous success it was. BASF, Essential Credit Union, Flower's Bakery, Gonzales Fire Department, Monique LaCaze, Raymond Jackson, Red River Bank, River Parish Food, Tonya Jones, Zapp's, AARP, and Kelly Gourgues also contributed to the event.
