During the course of the traffic stop while interacting with the driver of the vehicle, a passenger became non-compliant resulting in the Trooper discharging their service weapon.

On July 10, at approximately 3:00 a.m., a Trooper from Louisiana State Police Troop A conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by multiple individuals on Potwin Dr. at Perkins Rd. in Baton Rouge. During the course of the traffic stop while interacting with the driver of the vehicle, a passenger became non-compliant resulting in the Trooper discharging their service weapon. The driver and a second passenger fled the scene of the incident. A third passenger is currently in custody.

The noncompliant passenger was struck and is being treated at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. The Trooper sustained a minor injury during the incident.

The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations was contacted to investigate the officer involved shooting and gather all facts surrounding the incident. This incident remains under investigation.

Update, July 12:

As the investigation into the Trooper involved shooting continues, Troopers from the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation have located and arrested the driver that initially fled the scene. The driver has been identified as 19-year-old Jamaal K. Mire Jr. of Baton Rouge. Mire has been charged with Resisting an Officer, Possession of Marijuana, and Driving on Divided Highways. Mire has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for these offenses.

This incident remains under investigation.
