New appointments are for the district and Dutchtown Primary
Ascension Public Schools announces the appointment of Patricia E. Signorelli as an Instructional Supervisor over the SBLC/504 programs and Sandra Alfred as Principal of Dutchtown Primary School.
"We are in the business of serving children, and those children walk the halls of our schools every day. We are delighted when highly qualified and dedicated people like Sandra and Patricia step up to serve in the roles of leading our schools and supporting our school leaders,” said Superintendent David Alexander.
New Instructional Supervisor Patricia Signorelli has served Ascension Public Schools for 20 years, beginning her career at Lowery Middle School (LMS) where she taught social studies and later became an SBLC/504 Facilitator. Her experience at LMS led to a position as an elementary SBLC/504 Facilitator for the district. She has held numerous school administrative positions from serving as an assistant principal at Duplessis Primary and Spanish Lake Primary to leading Dutchtown Primary as Principal for the past six years.
Signorelli is a Louisiana State University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in secondary education. She also earned additional graduate hours from LSU, Southern University, Xavier University and Northwestern State University in special education, testing and measurement, school leadership and school turnaround.
Signorelli is married with three children, two step children and two grandchildren, all of which attend or have attended Ascension Public Schools.
Signorelli says she has learned so much in her past 20 years of teaching about struggling students. “We have our own language,” she said, “and this gives us opportunities to help families, principals and teachers to understand the process and help kids get what they need.”
“We want our students to understand that they are not a test score and to make sure all students are successful, even those who struggle the most,” Signorelli said.
Sandra Alfred is the new principal of Dutchtown Primary School. A resident of St. Gabriel, Alfred began her career as a third grade teacher at Northeast Elementary in East Baton Rouge Parish. She continued to teach third graders at St. Gabriel Elementary in Iberville Parish before she finally moved to Dutchtown Primary to teach first grade for over 20 years.
For two years, Alfred served as a mentor teacher at Donaldsonville Primary, then returned to Dutchtown Primary to continue teaching and later become an instructional coach. For the past two years, she has held the title of Assistant Principal at Dutchtown Primary.
Alfred graduated from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in educational leadership. She has been motivated by family and friends who have supported and encouraged her to aspire her to be more throughout her career, and she looks forward to growing with the Dutchtown Primary family.
“I have had great role models as leaders,” Alfred said. “I am eager to take the knowledge I have gained to lead my Dutchtown family to empower our students with the skills and tools they need to be successful.”
