Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
The Gonzales Police Department will be participating in the National Mobilization of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign during August 17 through September 3. The department is able to do this through the grant received from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. Officers will be out in force to enforce the DWI laws. If you drink don't drive, be considerate of yourself and others' lives.
Ascension Chapter Banquet
Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Louisiana's Ascension Chapter Banquet presented by Bevel Tech Group, Relief Windows, EATEL, Shell, Cabela's, Hancock Whitney, and Rouses Markets will be held at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center on Thursday, September 20 at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $75 per person, $650 per table of 10, or $1250 per VIP table. Louisiana Folklife History
“Louisiana Folklife and Folklore History: More Than We Know” will be presented by Maida Owens, Folklife Program Director for the Louisiana Division of the Arts, on Saturday, August 18, 10 a.m. at the Bluebonnet Library. Owens specializes in traditional cultures and has worked with organizations and researchers across the state to identify one of Louisiana’s most important assets: traditional folk artists to determine the most innovative and effective ways to present Louisiana’s folk musicians, storytellers, and craftsmen to the state’s citizens and to the world. She has recently completed an E-Book about this subject. The free program is open to the public. 929 Repairs Rescheduled
Ascension Parish Department of Public Works has announced that the drainage improvements scheduled for Highway 929 at Patty Joe Lane in Galvez have been postponed. The road will remain open.
State Police Commission Audit
Auditors evaluated how the Commission ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and overall accountability over public funds. Among the things auditors looked at were transactions and procedures related to LaCarte purchasing cards, travel expenditures, contracts, and payroll. In addition, auditors reviewed the Commission’s compliance with certain state laws, including ethics. No problems were found.
Missing Sculpture Found
The Baton Rouge Police Department contacted The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge at 11 a.m. Friday to report the missing iron sculpture has been found. It was located in a parking lot on River Road at Oklahoma Street. The sculpture has sustained reversible vandalism. The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge would like to thank the Baton Rouge community, Baton Rouge Police Department, Crime Stoppers, and all media outlets for helping in the speedy recovery of the missing sculpture.
