LA 44 Lane Closure
A lane closure will take place on LA 44 (River Rd.) northbound from LA 942 to 1 mile south of LA 942. Work begins Monday, August 27, 2018 thru Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily. The closure is necessary for ditch cleaning and maintenance. Alternates routes are available. Motorists can detour LA 44 to LA 70 then LA 22 to LA 44.

Free Fire Detectors
Our hearts have been saddened by the news of family members perishing in home fires too many times that might have been saved by a fire detector. The American Red Cross has made free home fire detectors available to the church. As a community outreach service, beginning Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 9 a.m. to noon, the Sons of Allen and Daughters of Sarah of St. Luke African Methodist, located at 300 Oak Street, will begin installing free fire detectors in your home at no cost. Forty Under 40
Last month the Southern University Alumni Federation held its national convention in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on July 19, 2018. Some of the nation’s top engineers, scientists, educators, businesspeople, and more were honored at the Inaugural 40 Under Forty Awards ceremony at Manship Theatre. Local resident and Gonzales native, Alsie Dunbar was among those honored in the Inaugural Cohort. Dunbar is a senior process chemist and engineer of 19 years. She is the founder of the STEM GEMS Mentoring Project, which promotes Girls Excelling in Math and Science.

Master Cattleman Class
Put on by the LSU AgCenter, the cost of the program is $125. The fee covers teaching materials, meals and refreshments during each session, certificates for graduates, and a sign to display on the farm. There will a minimum number of participants needed to enroll for the class for us to be able to hold it. The classes will be held in Gonzales. The meetings will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held for 10 consecutive Wednesdays starting on September 12. Each class will last roughly 3 hours. Dr. Louis LeFebvre at Main Street Dental Care in Gonzales, La. is participating in Freedom Day USA on October 11. This day is designed to honor and help our military by offering free dental services to current and retired military personnel, as well as their immediate family. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
The Gonzales Police Department will be participating in the National Mobilization of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign during August 17 through September 3. The department is able to do this through the grant received from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. Officers will be out in force to enforce the DWI laws. If you drink don't drive, be considerate of yourself and others' lives.
