The Donaldsonville City Council met in its regular scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. at city hall. All members of the council were present with the exception of Council Chairperson Raymond Aucoin.
The council held a public hearing to inform the citizens of Donaldsonville on the accomplishments of the city on the completed Louisiana Community Block grant and to obtain views and to respond to questions relative to the city's performance of this grant.
No resident spoke up regarding the hearing.
In other business:
Dean Werner of the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported his office handled a total of 583 calls. Whereas 37 were vehicle accidents, nine burglaries, 26 thefts, and six narcotics for the month of May. There office issued 70 traffic citations, made ten juvenile arrests, and 108 adult arrests.
Werner also advised the council that there street crime unit has been on the streets of Donaldsonville lately. This group is comprised of off duty officers and they come at anytime and any day.
The Donaldsonville Fire Department responded to a total of 73 calls, 62 being emergency medical service calls. The fire department also performed a total of 270 man hours of training. Currently, the fire department is conducting pre-fire planning visits to businesses in the area. Fire Chief Chuck Montero said that these visits help identify any hazards that may encounter during a fire and to provide emergency contact information for each business.
Mayor Leroy Sullivan advised the council that lights for the levee top project will be installed later this week.
Council meetings are held every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at city hall. The public is encouraged to attend.
