Mercedes Elizabeth Thibaut Smith, 88, died on December 12 at 1:50 p.m. She was born on August 12, 1923. She was a native of Donaldsonville and a resident of Thibodaux.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 14 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at St. John Episcopal Cemetery.

She is survived by sons: F. Michael Smith III and his wife Collete, daughters Genie Smith Mueller and her husband Harry. Her brother, David D. Thibaut, grandchildren: Kristen Masiel and her husband Matthew, Justin Mueller and his wife Ericka, and Stephen Mueller. Great-grandchild, Abigail Masiel, and step grandchild, Heath Vizier and his wife Addie Shyla Vizier.

Preceded in death by her husband Dr. F. Michael Smith Jr., parents: Dubourg and Vivian Kleinpeter Thibaut, and brothers James Thibaut and Thomas Thibaut.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also an avid lover of animals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope for Animals or a charity of your choice.
