Joyy Joseph, a 2008 graduate of Ascension Catholic High School, has made the cut for Xavier University of Louisiana’s volleyball team. After Hurricane Katrina, the volleyball program vanished, but now with first year Coach Al’lisa Hale, she has selected ten recruits for the new season. This will be Xavier’s third season of intercollegiate volleyball but the first since 2004.
The Gold Nuggets will begin their regular season Aug. 28 when they play host to Alabama State and Belhaven at The Barn. Belhaven will be Xavier's opening opponent at 3 p.m., and the Nuggets will play Alabama State at 7 p.m.
Joseph will be the defensive specialist for the team.
She is the daughter of Vera Jones, Oliver and Terry Joseph, and the granddaughter of the late Rev. Sirley and Josie Jones, and the late Bernice Gaines and Charles Gaines of Donaldsonville.
