  • Dear Michael: I’m all frizzed up!

  • What do you think is the best way to deal with very curly, frizzy hair? I have struggled with difficult hair all of my life. I recently saw an article you wrote and decided to ask for your advice. Working in the industry for as long as you have, what is your professional advice?

  • Dear Michael,
What do you think is the best way to deal with very curly, frizzy hair? I have struggled with difficult hair all of my life. I recently saw an article you wrote and decided to ask for your advice. Working in the industry for as long as you have, what is your professional advice?
    Sincerely,
    Frizzing Out

    Dear Miss Frizz,
You have a couple of options. If you want to permanently straighten your hair, chemical straightening is an option. It works like a perm, so it does take some upkeep, but the benefit is that your hair will be straighter and easier to manage on a daily basis. Another option is to get a keratin treatment. With this treatment, you will keep more of your curl, but it helps with the frizz. If you do choose to do a keratin treatment, I recommend finding somewhere that has a formaldehyde-free option available. If you are looking for a less-expensive solution, you can use some products to help. A silicone-based liquid is a good option, and a heavy conditioner. Also, don’t wash your hair daily if you can help it. And for the love of God, girlfriend, stay away from the hair dryer!
    Love,
    Your Diva Michael

    Dear Michael,
My sister-in-law has been getting on my nerves lately. She is constantly giving out advice about raising children, cooking, cleaning and everything else to people who have not asked for her advice. This is a longstanding habit of hers – so I should be used to it. I just seem to be getting really aggravated with her lately. How can I handle this situation without blowing up at her?
    Sincerely,
    Tired of the Advice

    Dear Miss Tired,
When I dislike someone, they can’t do anything right! Isn’t it funny how everything that a person that you don’t like does seems to annoy you? I think that your aggravation means that you are past the point of putting up with your sister-in-law’s unsolicited advice. You would feel a lot better if you told her off. That doesn’t mean you have to be unkind, but you should be firm. It sounds like your sister-in-law needs to learn some boundaries, so better late than never. If she won’t stop with the advice, then maybe you should re-evaluate your relationship with her. Absence does make the heart grow fonder, after all.
    Love,
    Your Diva Michael

    Dear Michael,
I am thinking of having a theme party, but I don’t know what my theme should be. I figured since you have such a fun sense of style, you would be able to recommend something. What kind of theme party would you like to go to?

    Party Ideas

    Dear Miss Party,
Have a masquerade ball! I love the chance to dress up, and masks make it all the better! I love that you can be two different people – with two different kinds of makeup! I actually have a couple of masquerade masks – my favorite is purple and gold with peacock feathers. I think the idea of a theme party is fun and different, and your guests will really appreciate a chance to do something out of the norm. I’ll be waiting by the mailbox for my invitation; I already have the perfect outfit planned!
    Love,
    Your Diva Michael
