A helicopter flight originating from Gonzales was reported as having crashed in Iberia Parish Wednesday night in the Atchafalaya Basin surveying a pipeline.

According to authorities, the body of the 29-year old pilot was recovered Thursday. The pilot has been identified as Casey Clark, a pilot from Gulf Coast Helicopters. Clark was a native of Great Falls, Mo., and was living in Pearland, Texas.

"Rescuers used boats to get close to the site and then had to walk in two to three feet of water to reach the wreckage,"  said Chief Criminal Deputy Sheriff Richard Hazelwood on Wednesday.

The helicopter was heading to Patterson from Gonzales and was reported missing shortly after 4 p.m.

"The aircraft was scheduled to refuel in Patterson, Louisiana, about 12:30 p.m., but never arrived," Hazelwood said.
