A Veterans program, beauty pageant and back-to-school event are what's on tap in Ascension.

1.  Honor Ascension Vets: The Ascension Veterans Memorial Park (AVMP) will hold their first annual Purple Heart Ceremony on Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at 612 S. Irma Blvd., Gonzales. National Purple Heart Day is celebrated Aug. 7. This year's ceremony is being sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart Red Stick Chapter 177. 2. Attend a beauty pageant: The 2016 Miss Teen Donaldsonville pageant will be held Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Lemann Center. Contestants from Ascension Parish will be judged on talent, interview, athletic wear, fun fashion and formal wear. Admission is free to the pageant.

3.  Go to a back-to-school event: Anointed Hands is hosting their Eight Annual Back-2-School N Style event on Aug. 7 from noon to 5 p.m. The event will be held at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales. Local stylists and barbers will be providing free services to children ages five to fifteen. There will also be free giveaways, door prizes, activities for the kids and food.
