According to a report by Ascension Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), the parish has seen an increase of 469 jobs from last year. The number comes from the latest reported month - August - which showed employment was at 58,340, but down 976 from July as summer workers returned to school.

Growth in the parish labor force continues to outpace the region and the state with a 31 percent increase since Aug. 2006.

AEDC reports that its staff is working on a number of projects which have the potential to create another 2260 jobs, $123 million in annual new payroll, and represent over $17.4 billion in potential new investment. The level of activity in all three categories increased since last quarter by 20 percent to 50 percent.
