The Donaldsonville City Council unanimously appointed Richard Zeringue to the Donaldsonville Historic District Commission during the Oct. 25 council meeting.

Known for his work as an actor in Colombiana (2011), The East (2013) and American Violet (2008), Zeringue is a Donaldsonville native and DHS class of 1974 graduate.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration (SBA) were in attendance at the meeting to inform residents that the deadline to apply for individual assistance is Nov. 14.

A bid of $915,814.45 from Allen and LeBlanc LLC. was accepted by the council for the sewer rehabilitation infrastructure and inflow reduction project in the Port Barrow area.

Two liquor licenses were approved, one for St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church for a special event being held Nov. 3 through Nov. 6 and another for Rouses Supermarket, who recently acquired the LeBlanc's stores.

An ordinance was introduced providing for the incurring of debt and issuance of $800,000 of Sales Tax Bond. A public hearing will be held Nov. 22.

Mayor Leroy Sullivan announced that City Hall will be closed on Nov. 8 in observance of Election Day. The council meeting held on the same day will be canceled as well.
