Jimmie and Betty Hooks have spent their lives in Beauregard Parish and have been named the Grand Marshals for the 89th Annual Beauregard Parish Fair.

The Hooks own Big "D" Corral, a Western clothing and boot store, on Washington Street in DeRidder.

Jimmie and Betty met in 1951 when Betty was working at the candy counter at Morgan Lindsey, and Jimmie was working at his father's store, Hooks Department Store. Betty said Jimmy bought a lot of candy that summer.

The couple married on June 3, 1954, and Jimmy joined his father, after college, at Hooks Department Store.

In 1972, Steve “Big Daddy” Delia, approached the Hooks, offering to sell the inventory of western apparel, boots and rain wear from his pawn shop. The Big "D" Corral (named after Delia) began across the street from the courthouse before they bought the Uptown Theater, and later, the Jones Hardware buildings.
The Hooks have two children, Duff Hooks and DeLena Ashworth. Duff manages Big "D" Corral with his wife Pam Bailey Hooks, and Ashworth is a high school teacher in Ruston, Louisiana.
Jimmie and Betty have five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Eric Ray has been with the family for the long haul as an employee for 30 years at Big "D" Corral.
"We have been blessed by God to live in a great community with wonderful people who have been a blessing to our family," Betty said.
