St. Amant is the highest-ranked squad in Ascension as the Gators moved up two spots to No. 8 in Class 5A after their 21-14 upset victory over previously eighth-ranked Catholic on Friday night.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak to the Bears and awarded them their first district victory of the season. It also made them a perfect 6-0 for the third straight year.
This Friday night, the Gators will hit the road to face parish foe Dutchtown (3-3).
Also in 5A, East Ascension moved up two spots. They are tied with Catholic for No. 11 in the poll—both garnering 14 points.
The Spartans rolled past the Griffins, 28-18, in their district opener on Friday to improve to 5-1. It was their fourth straight victory.
This Friday night, East Ascension will host 1-5 Broadmoor.
West Monroe is No. 1 in 5A, with John Curtis, Evangel, Acadiana and Scotlandville rounding out the rest of the top five.
In Class 3A, Donaldsonville dropped one spot to No. 12, after a thrilling 26-22 defeat to No. 8 St. James in their district opener. This was the Tigers’ first loss of the season.
This Friday night, they’ll play a top-10 team for the second straight week as they go on the road to face sixth-ranked St. Charles in a critical district clash. The Comets’ only loss of the season came to 5A East Ascension.
De La Salle is No. 1 in 3A, with University, Sterlington, West Feliciana and Iowa rounding out the rest of the top five.
In Class 1A, Ascension Catholic worked their way into the top 10 for the first time this season.
The Bulldogs jumped up two spots to No. 9, after a second straight shutout victory—this one coming against district foe East Iberville, 55-0.
Ascension Catholic is a perfect 6-0 for the first time since 1968.
This week, they’ll host Southern Lab in a crucial district matchup.
Southern Lab is just 2-4, but all of their losses have come against upper-classification schools. They played their first 1A opponent on Friday night when they faced St. John. They hung up 80 points on the Eagles.
Logansport is No. 1 in 1A, followed by Kentwood, Opelousas Catholic, Lafayette Christian and Haynesville in the top five.
