Domestic Violence and Bullying
Although we all focus on October as breast cancer month, let’s not forget that it is also domestic violence and bullying awareness month as well. I consider awareness of these two to be just as important. If you think about it, they are one in the same. Bullying usually has a physical effect and a mental effect, same as domestic violence. It happens everywhere and everyday. Let’s make an effort to talk to those victims, notice the signs and differences of their daily disposition. Get them to tell you or someone else that can help them. Helping shows you care, you’re being compassionate, and most of all that you love that person enough to get them away and out of that situation.
EBC Pink it Out
Emmanuel Baptist went pink for the day as members wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Some survivors spoke about their experience with treatment, family, work, and the faith. All concluded that their Faith in God is what truly kept them in focus that everything was going to be alright.
It’s not just for women. Men, too are targets for breast cancer. A guest of Rotarian Matt Leblanc, Wanda August was the guest speaker at this week’s Rotary Club meeting. August gave members the facts, stats, and a living testimony of surviving breast cancer. The message was real and heartfelt. Remember the best way to detect cancer is to check yourself monthly. If you find it early, you can treat it early. Join us every Thursday at noon at Café Lafourche on Veterans Boulevard in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
