"It's also a good way for our company to network with people that we may not typically see everyday in the office. We plan on continuing to help with this event every year."
Golf Ascension began as a fundraiser created by Leadership Ascension, where 30-35 community leaders work on projects within the parish that help improve the community and its concerns.
On November 27, the Golf Ascension Golf Tournament was held at Pelican Point, where 32 teams were registered to play. Funds that were raised go towards Leadership Ascension.
City of Gonzales employee Tammy Williams assisted the Weekly Citizen in the morning, and there was much to experience on the golf course. For instance, there was a "party hole" at each hole on the golf course. This is essentially where a sponsor of the event has a tent set up with free goodies like chapstick, koozies, or towels, amongst other items. Many of the tents also served beverages and food for the golfers to enjoy.
A few of the sponsors for Golf Ascension included PJ's Coffee of New Orleans, Don's Seafood, Coca Cola, Red River Bank, and GSA Consulting Engineers. RJ Daigle and Sons was the presenting sponsor for the event.
"This is the third year we've helped with this event, and it's important to us because of the economic development of the parish," Nick Daigle, Chief Operating Officer of RJ Daigle and Sons, said. "It's also a good way for our company to network with people that we may not typically see everyday in the office. We plan on continuing to help with this event every year."
Once the golfers finished for the day, there was an awards banquet to end the event. There were first, second, and third place recognition for who did the best during golfing.
Don's Seafood provided the brunch, which was served before golfers went out onto the course. They also had a tent set up on the course to provide golfers with snacks throughout. Later, they provided an early dinner during the banquet for the guests to enjoy.
