Platinum is the highest award that you can win in dancing competitions.

Callie Whiddon and Jeanette Schexnaydre, both owners of the Platinum Dancewear Apparel company, had their grand opening on January 30. They are located at 14210 Airline Highway, Suite A, in Gonzales.

“We were both competitive dancers, and now we both have children that dance competitively, too. I have one girl and one boy, and Callie has three girls,” Schexnaydre said.

“The store has a boutique feel to it. Our goal was to be able to offer a unique experience with the ability to get everything in one place, especially for tryouts. We want to offer pieces that are different from most places,” Whiddon said.

A few of their dance pieces include brands from Honeycut and Jo + Jax. They will also be offering kids and womens swimsuits, including brands from Maaji, PilyQ, and Becca, to name a few. Another option they have is athletic apparel from brands like Free People and Beyond Yoga.

What’s the story behind the name, though? Platinum doesn’t just represent the highest level of award that can be received. It also represents Schexnaydre and Whiddon’s daughters.

The P is the name of one daughter, Paisley. L stands for Layla, A stands for Avery, and T stands for Taigon.

Store hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Platinum will be closed every Sunday. You can visit their Facebook at facebook.com/Platinumdancewearandapparel for apparel photos and more info.
