Krewe of Elks celebrates 81st annual Mardi Gras Ball

The Lemann Memorial was the backdrop of a “Night at the Grand” Saturday evening as the Krewe of Elks held its 81st annual Mardi Gras Ball. Serving as ball captain for the evening was Rodney “REV” Vega with Tammy and Micah Crochet as ball chairmen.

The evening opened with the final presentation of King Jolly Goodfellow LXXX Gerald Gianelloni and Queen Katherine Elizabeth Gianelloni, as they were introduced, extended their well wishes for this year’s royalty, and took their final walk. A gift of roses was presented to the queen from Ladies Auxiliary President Natalie Vega.

Reigning over this year’s celebration were King Jolly Goodfellow LXXXI Pegram J. Mire, Jr., Attorney at Law, Judge, 23rd J.D.C (retired), and his Queen Lauren Ashley Mistretta. Lauren is currently attending Nicholls State University where she is majoring in Education. She is a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.

Costumed couples for this year’s celebration paying homage to the King were Wendy and Travis Acosta, Jessica and Jerod Bonadona, Jessica and Stephen Folse, Jeanie and Colby Pennison, Amy and Brian Tripode, and Kimberly and Joshua Truxillo.

Debuting as The Royal Court for King Jolly Goodfellow LXXXI were Maids Taylor Anne Diez, daughter of Gina and Clint Diez, Lindsey Katherine Harrell, daughter of Cindy Harrell and Kevin Harrell, Meha Lahiri Munir, daughter of Dr. Devjani Lahiri-Munir and Asim Munir, Heather Alyn Poirrier, daughter of Donna and Mark Poirrier Sr., and Bailey Adams Walker, daughter of Aimee and Robby Walker. Dukes Brandon Allen Bergeron, son of Lisa and Bernard Bergeron, Alex Joseph Sotile, son of Cherie and Frankie Sotile, and Grand Duke Austin Joseph Legendre, son of Jill Legendre and Past Exalted Ruler, Todd Legendre.

Junior Maids presented were Sarah Elaine Allee, daughter of Wendy Allee and King Jolly Goodfellow LXXII Stacy Allee, Lauren Renee Landry, daughter of Valerie and Mark Landry, Caroline Elizabeth Mistretta, daughter of Jill Mistretta and Past Exalted Ruler, David Mistretta, and Heeya Lahiri Munir, daughter of Dr. Devjani Lahiri-Munir and Asim Munir.

Pages and Heralds paying homage to the King were Cain Anthony Poirrier, son of Donna and Mark Poirrier Sr., Taylor Grace Richard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jon Richard and Jami Richard, Jackson Louis Riche, son of Queen of Elks 1996, Ashley Beck, and Niles Riche, and Georgia Ann Vega, daughter of Ladies Auxiliary President Natalie Vega and Exalted Ruler Rodney “REV” Vega.

The festivities continued throughout the night with dancing to the music of the band, Good Feeling. The evening concluded with a Royal Breakfast hosted by their majesties.
