Delaney seeks City Council District 1 seat

"I, Lauthaught Delaney, Sr. am a candidate for the District #1 seat on the Donaldsonville City Council in the Oct. 4, 2008 primary election."

District #1 is located in the City of Donaldsonville and includes an area that is bordered by the Mississippi River on the north, La. 1 on the south, Bayou Lafourche on the east and up to Burns Drive on the west.

Delaney is 53-years-old and the husband of the former Robyn Penn of Donaldsonville. They are the father of two, Lauthaught, Jr. and Alayasia. Delaney is committed to the improvement of the his community and is willing to dedicate his time and energy towards working with other elected officials of the city council to provide opportunities for the citizens of District 1 and other citizens of Donaldsonville.

Delaney states that District 1 had several issues that need immediate attention such as the improvement/ or upgrading of roads, drainage, sidewalks and the maintaining of grass on overgrown lots.

"Economic hardship has impacted the City of Donaldsonville and especially the citizens of District 1," Delaney said.

Delaney will dedicate himself to working other city and parish officials to help improve the economic conditions in the city as well as in District 1.

Delaney is a Democrat. He is a 1972 graduate of Donaldsonville High School and a 1974 graduate of Westside Vocational - Technical School. He is a former Ascension Parish Police Juror for District 1, serving from 1988-1992. He is employed with Americas Styrenics, formerly Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, LLC for the past 33 1/2 years presently as shift supervisor.

Delaney is a member of Mt. Triumph Baptist Church where he is deacon, Trustee Board member and a member of the male chorus. Other community related activities include his membership in Hiram Lodge #12 F & M (Prince Hall affiliated).

"It is my belief that the city council can be an effective tool that works as a unit towards the betterment of the community," Delaney said. "I pledge that if given the opportunity to serve as the councilman from District 1, that I will devote my time and energy towards making positive changes in District 1.

"As I start this campaign, I pledge to make myself available to hear the concerns of the citizens of the district. Together, we  can make positive strides in our community. I will continue to be committed to God, to my family and to the citizens of the district. Change starts with one vote. I humbly ask for your support and request that you cast your vote for Lauthaught Delaney, Sr. on Oct. 4, 2008.
