Evening Storytime at Library

Join the Ascension Parish Library for our monthly Pajama Storytime, an evening storytime for families with preschool and early elementary aged children.  Good stories and lots of fun are planned for all who attend.  Children are encouraged to attend in their pajamas, and everyone is sure to have a great time!  The program consists of stories, songs, fingerplays, and a craft.  No registration is required for Pajama Storytime.  This program is designed for parents with children aged 8 and younger.  Our December Pajama Storytime is scheduled for Thursday, December 18 at 6:30 p.m. at all library locations.  For more information on this program, please contact the library in Gonzales at 647-3955, in Donaldsonville at 473-8052, or Galvez at 622-3339.

Ascension Public Schools

Preparing all students successfully (PASS) will hold a jambalaya dinner benefiting the YMCA after school programs on Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Gonzales Wal-mart.

Vote for Your Favorite Book at the Library!

Calling all students in third grade to sixth grade!  The Ascension Parish Library needs you to vote in this year's Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award.  The Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award was established by the State Library of Louisiana to find out what books you like the best!

Fifteen titles have been nominated in two reading categories: books for third to fifth graders and books for sixth to eighth graders.  The list includes popular books by award-winning authors.  Students are invited to visit the Ascension Parish Library to vote for their favorite title.  Children who wish to vote must read at least three of the nominated titles for their grade level before voting.  Votes must be submitted by January 23, 2009 to be counted.  For further information concerning this program, please contact the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 647-3955, in Donaldsonville at 473-8052, or in Galvez at 622-3339.

Acension Community Theatre

Ascension Community Theatre will be holding auditions on Dec. 13 from 3 to 6 p.m., and on Dec. 14 from 3 to 6 p.m.  ACT is located in the historic Pasqua Theater, 823 Felicity Street, in Gonzales. Director Jean Xavier Brager is looking for ten men of (or appearing to be) the following ages: four in their 20s and/or early 30s, and the rest in their 40s or older; and three women of (or appearing to be) the following ages: two in their 20s, and one in her 40s or older. Stage combat experience will be valued for some parts. Audition persons should prepare a two-minute monologue, and be ready to read from the script and do some group exercises. Bonne chance!

The show runs March 5-8 and 12-14.

Senior Citizen's Christmas Party

The annual Donaldsonville Senior Citizens Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 16, 2008 at Palazzo Bernardo.  Doors will open at 9 a.m.  Festivities will include live entertainment, numerous door prizes, and a fantastic Christmas Dinner. Donaldsonville Rotary Club will sponsor this popular tradition.  Area seniors are invited to come out and enjoy the fun.

Donaldsonville Senior Citizen Center

We are now set up at the Lemann Center at 1100 Clay Street in Donaldsonville.  We will remain here until our Senior Center has been fully repaired. Seniors may qualify for a power wheelchair

Medicare's regulations now make it easier for seniors and others with debilitating conditions obtain a power wheelchair at little or no cost. These assistance options are available to anyone with problems getting around their homes, or who are in danger of falling due to their medical condition. Those who are suffering from any condition that severely limits their mobility should call Miracle on Wheels at 1-866-200-6924.

The Tau Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will host it's annual Gala on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 9 p.m. until at the Carl F. Grant Civic Center in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Tickets can be purchased at $30 per person and tables may be purchased at a cost of $180 per table. Music will be provided by 2 Da T. In celebration of Community Coffee Company's 90th anniversary this spring, they are extending an invitation to all students in kindergarten through sixth grade to help design the company's birthday card. The first place prize for the winner is a laptop for the student and one for the student's school. The two runners-up will each receive a birthday party for their classes. The winner's artwork will be featured on the birthday card, on Community Coffee's website, and displayed in CC's Community Coffee House locations.

Joy Fellowship Outreach Ministries

Christmas Cantata

Gonzales Baptist Temple's Christmas Cantata will host its annual event "Christmas On the Air," Sunday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in Gonzales. For more information contact the church at 225-647-5204.

Informational Parent Workshop

Parents are invited to attend informational parent workshops offered at Assumption Parish Primary School. The workshop will be held at the Head Start office in Napoleonville on Dec. 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Bayou Community Band Concert

The Bayou Band 2008 Christmas Concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. at the Warren J. Harang Municipal Auditorium in Thibodeaux.

Zabitatz.com - the web's first social media site for home design -announces "Zabby's Wacky Tacky Home Design Disasters", a contest where members are invited to post photos or videos of decorating mishaps for a chance to win their mortgage payments of $1200 a month (up to $14,400 for the year).

Members are encouraged to upload visual evidence of the worst they've seen in home design to the Zabitatz.com site. Zabber votes will narrow the entries down to five finalists, based on five categories. Zabbers will then vote to choose the worst of the worst - the wackiest, tackiest home design disaster!  Entries are being accepted until December 17th, and the grand prizewinner will be announced during the week of February 9th, 2009. 

Donaldsonville Christmas Parade

The town's Christmas parade is scheduled to roll at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. Organizations interested in participating should call Danielle Doyle at 473-9104 or 445-3653 to receive an entry form.

At the end of the parade there will be activities for children in Louisiana Square. This event is sponsored by the City of Donaldsonville and the downtown Development District.

Free Computer Training at the Library

Ascension Parish Library offers the following free computer training seminars during December. December 15 - Discovering Email, 6 p.m.; December 16 - Internet Basics, 10 a.m.; December 18 - Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint, 6 p.m.; December 29 - Introduction to Microsoft Publisher, 6 p.m.; December 30 - Job Searching on the Internet, 10 a.m.  In Donaldsonville: December 3 - Introduction to Microsoft Excel, 10 a.m.  Seminars are free and open to the public and registration is not required.  For more information, please call the library at 647-3955 in Gonzales, and at 473-8052 in Donaldsonville.
