Assumption Parish Preschool

Anyone seeking the opportunity to substitute in an Assumption Parish Preschool classroom should attend the upcoming training on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 - at the Head Start Office, 4891 Highway 308, Napoleonville. Training for substitutes will be held from 9 a.m. till noon and is mandatory.  In order to be added to the substitute list, you must attend this class. 

A cleared criminal background check is required to substitute.  In order to speed up the process, it is highly recommended that you have your fingerprints done by the sheriff's office before the training.  Please bring your prints with you to the training.  For more information you may call (985) 369-9735 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Small Business Consulting at Library

Ascension Parish Library offers free small business consulting on the second Wednesday of each month at the library in Donaldsonville located at 500 Mississippi Street.  Persons wanting to start or improve a small business receive a private, two-hour consultation designed to provide professional help in areas of financing, marketing, and accounting. This service is sponsored by Ascension Parish Library and is a partnership program with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge.  All services are free and confidential.  To schedule an appointment call the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at 225-922-0998. 

Vote for Your Favorite Book at the Library!

Calling all students in third grade to sixth grade!  The Ascension Parish Library needs you to vote in this year's Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award.  The Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award was established by the State Library of Louisiana to find out what books you like the best!

Fifteen titles have been nominated in two reading categories: books for third to fifth graders and books for sixth to eighth graders.  The list includes popular books by award-winning authors.  Students are invited to visit the Ascension Parish Library to vote for their favorite title.  Children who wish to vote must read at least three of the nominated titles for their grade level before voting.  Votes must be submitted by January 23, 2009 to be counted.  For further information concerning this program, please contact the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 647-3955, in Donaldsonville at 473-8052, or in Galvez at 622-3339.

Donaldsonville Senior Citizen Center

We are now set up at the Lemann Center at 1100 Clay Street in Donaldsonville.  We will remain here until our Senior Center has been fully repaired. Seniors may qualify for a power wheelchair

Medicare's regulations now make it easier for seniors and others with debilitating conditions obtain a power wheelchair at little or no cost. These assistance options are available to anyone with problems getting around their homes, or who are in danger of falling due to their medical condition. In celebration of Community Coffee Company's 90th anniversary this spring, they are extending an invitation to all students in kindergarten through sixth grade to help design the company's birthday card. The first place prize for the winner is a laptop for the student and one for the student's school. The two runners-up will each receive a birthday party for their classes. The winner's artwork will be featured on the birthday card, on Community Coffee's website, and displayed in CC's Community Coffee House locations.

Joy Fellowship Outreach Ministries

Assumption Preschool

Zabitatz.com - the web's first social media site for home design -announces "Zabby's Wacky Tacky Home Design Disasters", a contest where members are invited to post photos or videos of decorating mishaps for a chance to win their mortgage payments of $1200 a month (up to $14,400 for the year).

Members are encouraged to upload visual evidence of the worst they've seen in home design to the Zabitatz.com site. Zabber votes will narrow the entries down to five finalists, based on five categories. Zabbers will then vote to choose the worst of the worst - the wackiest, tackiest home design disaster!  Entries are being accepted until December 17th, and the grand prizewinner will be announced during the week of February 9th, 2009.

Informational Parent Workshop

The Head Start Office will be hosting the following workshops for parents of children enrolled in the Assumption Head Start or Preschool program.  All Head Start and Preschool parents are invited to attend the upcoming training activities.  If you cannot attend on the day the workshops are presented at your school, you may attend at any of the other locations.  The workshops are free and provide lots of great information.  You also get a chance to meet other parents of preschool children.
