Alvin the teacher

The first grade students at Belle Rose Primary class had an art lesson in May from a local artist who has developed a national name for himself.  Mr. Alvin Batiste brought his easel and sketchpad and demonstrated how he paints a picture from beginning to end.

He told the class that he has been painting and drawing since he was a little boy.  He taught them about the importance of hard work and following your dreams. Mr. Batiste painted several scenes for the students.  He answered questions and encouraged the children to try new things in art and to be proud of their efforts.

The class was very excited and appreciative that he took time out of his busy schedule to visit them. Mr. Alvin has a studio in Framer Dave’s Frame Shop at 512 Mississippi Street in Donaldsonville where visitors can stop by and watch him paint.  The shop belongs to David Umbraguglio and has been in business since the early 1980’s.

Anyone interested in watching Mr. Alvin at work can drop by the shop to see him paint and look at his work.  For directions or information, you may call 225-473-8536.  The first grade teachers and students really appreciate Mr. Alvin and Mr. David visiting them.
