  1. Audition for a voice competition: On Feb. 4, singers in grades sixth through 12th can audition for Ascension Idol, an annual fundraiser supporting the Ascension Fund. Auditions will be held at the La Quinta Inn & Suites conference room in Gonzales from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Grand prize winners will receive a Jazz Fest package for two, second place will receive Bayou Country Super Fest three-day floor tickets for two and third place ill receive Cajun Country Jam tickers for four. 
  2. Attend a book presentation: Dr. Jas Sullivan will present his book, Black Identity: What Does It Mean for Black Leaders, on Feb. 11 at the Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown at 6:30 p.m. Sullivan is a associate professor ro Political Science and African American Studies at LSU.   3. Attend a Anti-Valentines Day party: Teens can make their way to the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville for an Anti-Valentines party on Feb. 12. There will be a series of Minute-to-Win-It like challenges to take your mind off of relationships, flowers, candy and everything sappy that comes with Valentines Day.
