Beryl Mitchell from the Capital Area Agency on Aging will be in attendance at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville on March 31 for an hour-long presentation on the basics of Medicare.

Mitchell will cover topics such as the different parts of Medicare, the various types of Medicare Part D and prescription drug coverage. She will also assist in helping those in attendance find the best plans that suit them, as some plans only cover drugs and others cover health care through HMOs and PPOs.

“The most important thing to know about Medicare is how to save the most money on a plan and how to apply for assistance to pay for Medicare,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell is a LA SenioRX Coordinator and has worked for the CAAA for the past 11 years assisting uninsured or underinsured that cannot afford medicine.

“In 2006 the SenioRx staff, together with the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), began training for the introduction of Medicare Prescription Drug Insurance, or Part D,” she added. “We now have three SHIIP trained counselors, including myself, working with us that can help Medicare recipients find the best Part D plan for them.  We do this by comparing plans side by side. We can also aid Medicare members in applying for assistance to help pay for Medicare Part D and Part B costs.  I feel this assistance is among the most important work we do.”

The program will take place at the APL in Donaldsonville from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Call (225) 473-8052 to reserve your seat.
