Comery appointed principal of Lowery Middle
Ascension Public Schools announces the appointment of Daryl Comery as the new principal of Lowery Middle School.
"Thank you to the Board, Superintendent Alexander, Assistant Superintendent Graves and Donaldsonville High Principal Marvin Evans. I do not take this job lightly because I know of all the important educators that had this position before me," Comery said. "In 1988, I was a quarterback on the Lowery Middle team, and in 2005, I was the head football and basketball coach. In both instances we were defeated, but I guarantee you this time we will not be defeated. We will be undefeated!"
A "Product of Donaldsonville," Comery was born, raised and has dedicated most of his 17-year career in the Donaldsonville community. He began as a special education teacher at Donaldsonville High School before becoming a mentor teacher at that school. He worked as a master teacher at Lowery Middle School, then moved to St. Amant High School as an assistant principal before returning to Donaldsonville High as the associate principal.
A national board certified teacher, Comery was the 2010 High School Teacher of the Year for Donaldsonville High and Ascension Parish. He attended the Ascension Parish Leadership Academy and Harvard University's Graduate School of Education program for school turnaround leaders.
Comery earned a bachelor's degree in general studies from Louisiana State University and a master's degree in educational leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University. He is currently in the educational leadership doctoral program at Southeastern.
