About a dozen participants supported the Mt. Triumph Baptist bike-a-thon.

The Mt. Triumph Baptist Church pastored by Rev. Carnel Joseph hosted its second annual bike-a-thon for the Donaldsonville community. After a successful turnout last year, Joseph and event sponsors Bobbi Henry and Darlene Joseph wanted to be sure to continue it.

“We do this just so the community can come together and enjoy something positive and is fun for the kids and the adults,” Henry said.

This year, the numbers were cut due to bad weather on Friday night. Henry said she still was proud of those who were able to come out anyway.

Henry said they want all of the churches to get involved in the bike-a-thon because it’s something fun for the kids.

“There isn’t much around here really for the kids to do so we’re trying to find some things and we have some other things planned in the future,” Henry said.

Jerry Butler of Soul Train Riders motorcycle club continue to support the event. Last year it helped with it and Butler said that’s what the club is here for.

“We are a small local bike club here in town and that’s one of our strengths is to stay in the churches and stay with the children,” Butler said. “When they call we come.”

Butler added, “You have to start somewhere in showing leadership to the kids, if they see us do positive things maybe they’ll mirror it and do positive things as well.”
