Caballero named to composite academic All-State team

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association recently announced its 12th annual Academic All-State Baseball team.
In order to be selected to the Academic All-State team, the student had to be nominated by both his school principal and baseball coach and had to have achieved a seven-semester cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 or better based on a 4.0 scale.
Ascension Catholic senior shortstop C.J. Caballero was a composite Academic All-State selection after being named to the Class 1A Academic All-State squad. Caballero maintained a grade point average of 3.8979.
Donaldsonville senior outfielder Conner Smith was named to the Class 2A Academic All-State first team with a grade point average of 3.8235.
Also named honorable mention to the Class 2A Academic All-State team from Donaldsonville were senior outfielder Gaylord Bell with a GPA of 3.2941, senior first baseman Maurice Brown with a GPA of 3.2352 and senior third baseman Quinton Foster with a GPA of 3.000.
This year, 37 senior baseball players who excelled in the classroom were selected to represent their respective schools on the composite team. There was a total of 330 nominees.
Members of the Academic All-State Composite Team were honored during the
playing of the All-Star Baseball game Saturday at Bringhurst Park in Alexandria.
