HBU's Joseph wins 3 conference championships

Houston Baptist's Jimmy Joseph recently swept long and triple jumps at the conference championships.

Jimmy Joseph leaped to victory May 9 in the long jump to lead Houston Baptist University at the National Athletics Conference championships at Brigham Young University.

Joseph, a Donaldsonville native, won the men's title with a 23-4 1/2 effort to defeat Ryan Nichols' jump of 21-07 1/4 of CSU Bakersfield.

"This win was a great way to open the Championships," said head coach Theresa Fuqua. "Conditions were a lot different from what we have been used to the rest of the season, so it is a testament to Jimmy that he came out and had the best performances of his life when it counted most."

The Huskies' men finished second in team standings behind host Utah Valley State.

Joseph was also a member of the winning 400 relay team along with Jocques Robinson, Junior Malave and Donovan Brittian to clock a season-best 41.99 defeating Utah Valley University's 42.22.

Joseph also added the triple jump title with a  leap of 40-1 1/2 to best New Jersey Institute of Technology's Matt Magnifico's jump of 39-05.

Joseph also ran the lead leg in the 800 relay with Malave, Matt Bowden and Daniel Martinez to place second in 3:23.59 behind CSU Bakersfield's 3:23.21
