Lady Tiger Express advance to AAU National Championship

The Donaldsonville Lady Tiger Express recently qualified for the AAU 15-year-old Girls National Championship. They are from left, bottom, statistician Percy L. The Donaldsonville Girls Basketball team has earned a spot in the 2008 Amateur Athletics Union 15-year-old Girls National Championship.

The Championship Games will be held at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex on July 5 - 11 in Orlando, Fla.

The Lady Tiger Express is a new AAU Jr. Olympic Organization for girls in the Ascension Parish area.

"We are dedicated to athletic and scholastic excellence for the girl's who try out and play for our team," head coach Percy Cargo Sr. said. "We are established as a non-profit organization and will emphasize the importance of religion and the need for self-motivation and self development along with team and personal values to our players."

Cargo said the team was founded to fulfill a growing need in the area for a good AAU girl's basketball organization.

"Our program is being started as a positive group that will encourage an appreciation for group participation as well as self-development and independence for a promising future," Cargo said. "Our desire is to be able to take girls who are willing to work hard and practice to a new level of play for their age group."

The Donaldsonville Lady Tiger Express consists of LaKendra Coleman, Renae Clark, Felicia Cargo, Monique Thomas, Keishan Smith, Kayla Mollere, Jasmin Mills, Alyce Dominigue, Keona Julien and Shaquendes Desira.

Assistant coaches are Jamie Octave and Clenard Mollere. Statistician is Percy L. Cargo Jr.

The team will host a carwash June 28 at O'Reily Auto Parts. Jambalaya will be served.
