Donaldsonville's Devon Breaux converts a basket in transition ahead of Ascension Catholic's Daniel LeBeouf and Kolby Martinez and behind teammate Akiee Turner in the Bulldogs' 59-48 victory Wednesday evening.

Ascension Catholic used a 17-6 run midway through the second half to subdue Donaldsonville 59-48 Wednesday evening in summer play at ACHS' gym.

"The guys are excited," Ascension Catholic head coach Troy LeBeouf said. "They have been working hard all summer. Some things went their way. If you can beat a press, you can shoot lay ups. They did some things that we talked about."

The seesaw contest saw Donaldsonville take a 31-26 halftime lead in the contest featuring running 20 minute halves.

"We didn't do good things and when you get tired, you make bad choices," Donaldsonville head coach Greg Hill said.  "We had five kids that weren't here. We had some things that we could have done better but we didn't have the right people."

Matt Pearce, 6-foot-6, led Ascension Catholic with 20 points.

"Matt went and rebounded the ball," LeBeouf said. "A couple of times he was watching but we are trying to get him to play hard every single time. I use him as a passer because he can see over the traps."

Pearce had 14 points at halftime.

"A guy that big, we can't chase him in our man to man coverage," Hill said. "You have to make it hard when he does get the ball and he drove in. We had bad matchups."

Jess Daze` added 12 points for Ascension Catholic, while Greg Carter had 10, Myron Dominigue contributed 9,  Daniel LeBeouf tallied 6 and Jace` Schexnaydre provided 2.

"Greg Carter played hard in the second half," LeBeouf said. "They all played good but I thought he was a big lift. The two guards (Daze` and LeBeouf) played well and we clicked as a team."

Akiee Turner and Quinton Bernard led Donaldsonville with 14 points apiece, while Devon Breaux added 8, Tre` Sullivan contributed 6, Kelvon Davis had 3 and Kenneth Parker added 2.

Pearce's put back opened the contest before Davis and Darvelle Allen each fed Sullivan on the right wing for consecutive 3-pointers. Pearce's lane drive knotted it up 8-8 after Daze's pull up jumper, Turner's put back and Pearce's pass to LeBeouf inside.

Breaux's transition bucket and one made it 14-10 after Pearce drove land and Allen fed Turner off an inbounds pass. Pearce's put back after LeBeouf's gave Ascension Catholic the lead before Davis fed Turner on the left wing for a 3-pointer in transition.

Pearce's put back knotted it up 20-20 with 5:22 left in the half after dishing to Dominigue for a 3-pointer at the top of the key.

Parker's pass inside to Bernard put the Tigers ahead 27-22 after Davis' up and under in transition and Breaux's baseline drive and  slider in transition plus one. Davis fed Bernard inside to close out the half after Pearce's free throws and roller sandwiched Bernard's put back.

Pearce's drive opened the second half before Sullivan passed to Turner on the right wing for a 3-pointer. Bernard's put back made it 40-31 after Davis fed Turner inside, another Bernard put back and Pearce's drive.

Daze`s lane drive cut it to 40-38 with 13:54 left to play after Kolby Martinez fed Daze in the right corner for a 3-pointer and LeBeouf's lane drive.

Bernard's tip preceded a 13-0 Bulldog run kick started by Schexnaydre's put back followed by Carter and Daze`s dishes to Dominigue in transition, the first and one.

Daze's pass to Carter inside gave Ascension Catholic a 51-42 lead after Dominigue fed Carter inside and Pearce's free throws.

Davis then fed Bernard before Parker's lane drive, but Daze` found Carter inside again.

Turner's put back cut it to 53-48 before Daze` nailed four free throws down the stretch and Carter added two.

Ascension Catholic's Matt Pearce banks a lay up ahead of Donaldsonville Quinton Bernard.
