Louisiana Track Dawgs compete at Junior Olympics in Detroit
The Louisiana Track Dawgs recently traveled to Detroit, Michigan to take part in the A.A.U. Junior Olympic Games. More than 9,800 athletes competed in the Track and Field events held from July 26 - August 2.
Leading the Track Dawgs was Taylor Tripode who qualified in three events. Tripode reached the top of the podium as he won the gold medal in the javelin, with a throw of 155' 3".
Tripode also competed in the 200 meter hurdles where he placed 29th with a time of 28.20 seconds. He also finished 12th in the Pentathlon with a personal best 2,553 points.
Zach Capello qualified for the Junior Olympics in two events, running the 1500 meter run and 3,000 meter run. Zach ran a personal best of 5:23 in the 1,500 where he finished 33rd. He also ran a strong time of 12:26 in the 3,000 to finish 35th.
Joseph Landry qualified in the 80 meter hurdles and crushed his previous personal best to run an amazing time of 14.7 seconds to finish 16th in the nation.
Thomas Daigle competed in the 800 meter run and had a great race with a time of 3:05 and finished in 46th place. Not bad for an 8 year old.
Gabrielle Daigle qualified in the discus throw and worked very hard to finish in 31st place with a personal best throw of 43'10".
Lauren Landry qualified in the 1500 meter run. Landry's beat her previous personal best by 26 seconds to finish in 49th place with a time of 6:33.
"The Track Dawgs had a great time in Detroit representing Louisiana and look forward to next year's games in Des Moines," coach Rocky Capello said.
