The Jarvis Green Foundations has focused on the promotion of education in children and offering support to single working mothers in disadvantaged, low-income areas.

To accomplish this mission, on Monday, Nov. 24 the Foundation distributed several gift cards totaling $197 for several families in need this holiday season. The reason for the odd amount is for Green's jersey number, 97, for the New England Patriots. Families joined together at Jarvis's restaurant the Capitol Sports Bar and Grill in Donaldsonville and families were treated with cheesecake and coffee, compliments of Cajun Eats Inc.

"I think that it is good to give back to the community," said Tammy Johnson, one of the recipients of the gift card.

"Most of us can't afford a good holiday season, but Jarvis and those who helped have made it possible this year," said Barbara Levy, another recipient.

The Foundation wants to help kids and stress the importance to parents to get involved with teachers and other parents in school. This event was just to thank parents for being involved in their children's lives and also to encourage families to go a step further to be successful.

The Foundation also sponsored its annual Wine Tasting Gala, allowing Green's fellow Patriots teammates a chance to show off their fine taste for wine. The purpose of the Gala was to raise money for single parents in need and those affected by Hurricanes in the Gulf Coast. The Gala was held on Nov. 15 in Seekonk, Mass.

Prizes that were given away included a meal prepared by Jarvis Green himself, a Trip for 2 to Mexico with 50 athletes March 6-7, 2009, and many more items.

Participants not only racked up on some memorable items, but made hefty contributions to help families worldwide in need.

"I am committed to making positive changes in the lives of struggling single mothers," said Jarvis Green, who also says his own mother inspires him to make changes in others lives.

Although the Foundation is just beginning, it is far from ending and with a successful year under its belt, Jarvis looks forward to increase the ways in which he can help in years to come.

The Jarvis Green Foundation was able to raise enormous amounts from sponsorships, ticket sales, raffles and the auction and will soon be selecting another mother to benefit from the kindness of all who participated in the Second Annual Wine Tasting Gala.
