Bayou Community Band

Rehearsals are underway for the Bayou Community Band 2009 Spring Concert. All rehearsals will be held on Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Lindsley Hall at Nicholls State University. Teamwork Louisiana

White Castle's TEAMWORK LOUISIANA Committee recruits vendors for its Trash and Treasure Flea Market and Coffee Call.

Located in the Old Shaheen's Building at 32515 Bowie Street, each Saturday from 7: a.m. until is White Castle's Trash and Treasure Flea Market and Coffee Call.  In the heart of White Castle's Main Street, the Market's sidewalk is adorned with whimsical tables and chairs and colorful umbrellas.  The Market and Coffee Call is presently operating with booths that feature homemade hotdogs and chili, Louisiana Po-Boys, popcorn balls, nachos, vintage clothing, and home furnishings, plants, bath and body baskets, Home Interior, Avon products, and other novelties.

Lowery Intermediate

The Lowery Intermediate teachers and staff wish to invite all parents and community to attend "Parent Literacy Night, Reaching for the Stars, Part two." This event will be held on Jan. 22, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. Free jambalaya will be provided along with entertaining student performances courtesy of the Drama Club. Important information will be provided regarding LEAP, ILEAP, reading fluency for all who attend. Please come out and join us for this event, and support our children.

Small Business Consulting at Library

Ascension Parish Library offers free small business consulting on the second Wednesday of each month at the library in Donaldsonville located at 500 Mississippi Street.  Persons wanting to start or improve a small business receive a private, two-hour consultation designed to provide professional help in areas of financing, marketing, and accounting. This service is sponsored by Ascension Parish Library and is a partnership program with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge.  All services are free and confidential.  To schedule an appointment call the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at 225-922-0998. 

Vote for Your Favorite Book at the Library!

Calling all students in third grade to sixth grade!  The Ascension Parish Library needs you to vote in this year's Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award.  The Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award was established by the State Library of Louisiana to find out what books you like the best!

Fifteen titles have been nominated in two reading categories: books for third to fifth graders and books for sixth to eighth graders.  The list includes popular books by award-winning authors.  Students are invited to visit the Ascension Parish Library to vote for their favorite title.  Children who wish to vote must read at least three of the nominated titles for their grade level before voting.  Votes must be submitted by January 23, 2009 to be counted.  For further information concerning this program, please contact the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales at 647-3955, in Donaldsonville at 473-8052, or in Galvez at 622-3339.

We are now set up at the Lemann Center at 1100 Clay Street in Donaldsonville.  We will remain here until our Senior Center has been fully repaired. Medicare's regulations now make it easier for seniors and others with debilitating conditions obtain a power wheelchair at little or no cost. These assistance options are available to anyone with problems getting around their homes, or who are in danger of falling due to their medical condition. In celebration of Community Coffee Company's 90th anniversary this spring, they are extending an invitation to all students in kindergarten through sixth grade to help design the company's birthday card. The first place prize for the winner is a laptop for the student and one for the student's school. The two runners-up will each receive a birthday party for their classes. The winner's artwork will be featured on the birthday card, on Community Coffee's website, and displayed in CC's Community Coffee House locations.
