Major Donald Bailey was named Teacher of the Year for Ascension Parish and Region III of Louisiana. He will go on to compete as State Teacher of the Year on July 10 in Baton Rouge.

Major believes that one of the most important honors that one can receive is one that is recognized by your peers.

“My fellow high school teachers talk the talk, walk the walk and are side by side with me down in the trenches.  I value my fellow teacher’s opinions and respect more than anyone in the education profession,” said Bailey.

Teacher Ricky Siemen commented on the great works of Major Bailey at an event that Major Bailey sponsors every year, their annual JROTC Crawfish Boil. “Major Bailey, you are always going above and beyond for the cadets.”

This is how the entire school views Major Bailey for all the things he does not just for his JROTC Cadets, but all students and teachers of DHS and the community.

Major Bailey will go on to represent Ascension Parish and region III on July 10, in Baton Rouge for State Teacher of the Year. Major says, “I will give it 100 percent for I not only represent myself but every high school teacher at Donaldsonville, Ascension Parish, and Region III. I take this responsibility seriously and will try to become the first state JROTC High School Teacher of the Year.”
