Shaqueel Babin shows others what he is made of in the 800-meter relay.

It was the relay teams that led the tigers a great deal.

With a time of one minute 29.22 seconds was the 800 meter relay state champs Shaqueel Babin, Justin Breaux, Tre’ Brown, and Titus Howard.

Teammates Justin Breaux, Tre’ Brown, Edward Green, and Javontae Wilson held third place in the 400 meter relay crossing with a time 42.85 seconds.

Kayla Mollere along with the 400-meter relay team represented the girls in this state track meet.

Mollere showed to be a great competitor once more placing second in the high jump with an impressive leap of four feet 10.4 inches.  The relay team took home fifth.

Donaldsonville High converged with their regional rivals and battled it out for different positions in the regional track meet last Tuesday. The Tigers traveled to East Beauregard and demolished every team standing.

Gathering a total of 112 points the Tigers track and field team left all other teams in the dust. Donaldsonville has won the regional meet three consecutive times and has no plans on stopping any time soon.

Trailing far behind was Pickering with 56.5 points. West Minister, Kinder, and Port Barre finished the top five ranks with 56 points, 52.5 points, and 43 points respectively.

Justin Breaux and Jason Freeman were two of the top five athletes in the running division, holding 25 and 20 points respectively.

Horrid weather on the way still didn’t stop the Tigers from pounding on their competitors.

As field events were taking place Devon Breaux and Denzel Butler dominated.

Breaux jumped six feet one inch and leaped 21 feet eight and one half inches landing a position in the State meet for both high jump and long jump.

Denzel Butler also landed a spot in state for shot put throwing a distance of 46 feet 2.5 inches.

On the girls end Kayla Mollere held strong for the Tigers going to state for high jump with a height of four feet eight inches.

Donaldsonville dismantled the competitors piece by piece.  All relay teams qualified for state holding one of the top three positions.

Javontae Wilson, Edward Green, Tre’ Brown, and Justin Breaux finished the 400-meter relay with a time of 43.54.  Also taking the crown was the 800-meter relay team crossing with a time of one minute 29.16 seconds.

Certifying a spot in State was the 1600-meter relay team consisting of Shaqueel Babin, Jordan Rosemond, Titus Howard, and Devon Breaux taking third with a time of three minutes 36.44 seconds.

“In state we should be up in the mix,” said Head Coach Gerald Cayer. “It depends on what the other teams do at the meet.”

Freeman finished second in the 1600-meter run and third in the 800-meter run and the 3200-meter run.  With times of four minutes 45.02 seconds two minutes 8.68 seconds and ten minutes 52.32 seconds respectively Freeman will be a strong addition to Donaldsonville in State.

Howard will also be running an individual race at State qualifying in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.02 seconds taking the runner up position.

Justin Breaux also ran with victory in his eyes placing first in both the 100 and 200 meter dash with times of 11.13 and 21.92.  Breaux is entering the state meet as the leading competitor in the 200-meter dash.

Donaldsonville High has showed much enthusiasm and great success throughout this track season.  They have accomplished what some thought was not possible. The Tigers would be starting their engines and getting ready for the years to come.

Devon Breaux dominated the high jump and low jump in last week’s track meet.
