Tigers Improve Early in Season

Last Friday Tigers participated in the Scotlandville Invite at Scotlandville High. The boys’ team took second overall and started the outdoor season on the right track. The field events started the meet off with great success. Devon Breaux, sophomore, took first in both long jump and triple jump leaping 22 feet and 38 feet 11 inches respectively. He was runner up in high jump soaring six feet in the air. 

Jeremy Dunn held second place in the javelin throw releasing at 137 feet eight inches. Not far behind was teammate Tre' Sullivan with a distance of 116 feet four inches. Dwight Wright held the crown at 44 feet 11 inches in shot put events. Following his lead was Aikee Turner holding second place in discus at 121 feet 5.5 inches.

Running events began and showed not to be any disappointment. Justin Breaux took first in the 400-meter dash clocking in at 51.57 seconds. Long distance runner, Jason Freeman, also held first in the 1600 meter run with a time of four minutes 58.75 seconds. Jordan Rosemond came in second crossing at 11.54 seconds in the 100-meter dash.

The following Saturday Donaldsonville traveled to Southern University to compete in the Johnny Thomas High School Invitational. Both the boys and the girls showed improvement taking first place and second place respectively. The boys held first with a total of 143 points and the girl's held their own with 76 points.

J. Breaux and Rosemond held the top two spots in the 100-meter dash crossing the finish line with a time of 10.77 seconds and 11.23 seconds,

The boys relay teams also held top positions in the running events. First place was achieved in the 200 meter relay split crossing with a time of one minute 31.10 seconds were J. Breaux, Rosemond, Shaquelle Babin, and Tre' Brown. In the 100 meter relay split teammates J. Breaux, Rosemond, Babin, and Edward Green took second place with a time of 43.83 seconds. J. Breaux, Rosemond, D. Breaux, and Freeman held second in the 400-meter relay split with a time of three minutes 36.22 seconds.

The girls prevailed early in the season taking the runner up position overall with a composite score of 76. As field events started Bria Sutherland and Courtney Winchester each held one of the top positions in javelin throw. The javelin landing at 98 feet 6.25 inches gave Sutherland the crown. Following was Winchester with a throw of 38 feet three inches. Irielle held second place in long jump launching herself 14 feet 1.5 inches.

First and second place was taken in the 400 meter run by Terralicia Mercadel and Beaunca Lewis finishing with times of one minute 3.42 seconds and one minute 4.94 seconds respectively.  

The Tigers held second in 800-meter relay, participants were Maiya Miles, Ka’Lynn Jupiter, Brionka Dunn, and Beaunca Lewis. For the 1600-meter relays, participants were Beaunca Lewis, Terralicia Mercadel, Rosa Joseph, and Bria Sutherland. 

The Tigers track and field are anticipating the upcoming meets at Port Allen and East Ascension.
